Board Meeting Minutes
April 3, 2002

CALL TO ORDER/FLAG SALUTE/INTRODUCTIONS

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Mary Mattison, Board Chair.

Board members in attendance were Mary Mattison, Judy Boxx, Charlie Crabtree, Sheri Folsom and Rob Olson.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

ACCOUNTS PAYABLE

The accounts payable register for the district was approved on a motion by Charlie Crabtree that was seconded by Sheri Folsom.

BUSINESS

A resolution of corporation for establishing a new checking account for Meridian High School was approved on a motion by Rob Olson that was seconded by Judy Boxx.

Superintendent Dickerson reported that the Washington State Department of Transportation had agreed to pay the district $2,900 for district property fronting the Guide Meridian. A motion to approve the sale and authorize the Superintendent to sign the necessary documents on behalf of the Board was made by Sheri Folsom and seconded by Rob Olson. Motion approved.

EDUCATION TOPIC - K-12 Social Studies Curriculum

Jane Colson presented an overview of the activities of the K-12 Social Studies Curriculum Committee. This committee has begun gathering information regarding state standards and frameworks, the district's current social studies program, and the experiences of other districts that have recently completed a social studies adoption. Board members asked questions and discussed various aspects of social studies curriculum. Bruce Burpee, the newly hired Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, was present and participated in the discussion.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

The Board went into executive session at 8:02 p.m. to review personnel performance matters. The executive session ended at 9:03 p.m. when the Board went back into regular session.

ADJOURNMENT

The meeting was adjourned at 9:03 p.m. by Chair Mary Mattison.
